Bottle Cap Buttons

Fun with bottle caps!
I have been making bottle cap buttons embellished with stamped polymer clay centers.   The edges of the bottle cap are hammered and holes are punched into the metal from the back.   Polymer clay is pressed into the center and a rubber stamp is used to embellish it with design.  Holes are opened up through the clay.   The buttons are baked to cure the polymer clay and with the metal backings, they are very durable.
This journal is posted in my Etsy shop.

  1. What a wonderful button idea! How in the world did you get the bottle cap to 'smash' so evenly? Wow you know if you didn't put holes in them they'd make great refrig magnets.....?? Hmmm.....may have to try that.....:) Thanks for sharing!

  2. Actually, I did make a few with magnets on the back too!
As for the edges being even, if you use a hammer and tap the edge lightly all the way around, and keep doing that, it just turns back nicely all the way around.
Be sure to remove the rubber seal inside the cap before you start so that doesn't interfere with the polymer clay.

  3. Wow - that is so creative!
Being the proud owner of one of your journals I really shouldn't be surprised by the lengths you will go to, to add an embellishment to one of your books. Your attention to quality and detail and your innovative ideas are always an inspiration. :)
